Album Cover
Thomas "Spats" Langham is one of the finest exponents of classic jazz guitar/banjo playing and singing around today. Having only just reached 30, Thomas has played professionally all his working life, touring with The Passadena Roof Orchestra and others from the age of 16! He plays regularly at The Crown and Trumpet with his trio "Hot Fingers" and has recently released a CD modestly titled "The Hottest Man in Town".

Hot Fingers play an eclectic mix of vintage acoustic string music. ‘Hot Fingers’ visit the hot jazz of 1920’s New York and sophisticated 1930’s Swing. From the ‘French Coffee House’ sound of the king of gypsy swing Django Reinhardt, the early blues of Lonnie Johnson, the syncopated Latin rhythms of artists such as Argentinean Oscar Aleman, and the jazz and swing pioneers Eddie Lang and Dick McDonough. This is mixed with vocals from the song-writing greats such as Cole Porter and Irving Berlin as well as novelty features from the likes of Cliff ‘Ukulele Ike’ Edwards.

We even stray dangerously close to rock and roll with the shuffle rhythms of Louis Prima (best known for being ‘King Louis’ in the Jungle Book!) Tom ‘Spats’ Langham has crooned his way around the world with bands such as the ‘Pasadena Roof Orchestra’ and ‘Chris Barber’. Malcolm Sked tries to get his sousaphone through customs with the outrageous ‘Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band’. Although just a trio, the band can be seen removing three guitars, a double bass, a sousaphone, a banjo, a mandolin, two ukuleles, a clarinet, a tuba, and a pair of castanets from the band van.

The band is proud to play acoustic instruments without amplification for a truly authentic acoustic sound. The band attracts enthusiastic audiences from every age group. Setting aside their superb musicianship, Spats has an explanation for their huge success – “We don’t tell them its jazz!”. Hot Fingers, 2007 Recording and Artwork by Mark Newton of New Sound Studios. The trio also play with 'Spats Langhams Hot Combination' (6 piece) - the album 'The Hottest Man In Town' is available from Amazon.

Playing shortly in the background will be a small clip of the band to hear more pop on down to the Crown and Trumpet and catch them live.
