Morris Men

The Gloucestershire Morris Men
For the last 60 or more years we have been performing one of the oldest of English traditions, Morris Dancing. Very little is known about the origins of this custom, but as a ritual and a form of pleasure we know that it dates back at least to the 15th century and is perhaps much older. There are many theories answering the questions why we do it? where did it come from?, why is it called Morris dancing anyway? and above all, which one is Morris? these are documented well and in detail elsewhere on the web.

The Shakespeare Morris Men
The Shakespeare Morris Men were founded in 1959 and are "The Keepers of the Bidford-on-Avon Tradiation".

Chipping Campden Morris Men
C.R. Ashbee had a dream and realised it by bringing a group of craft workers from the east end of London to Chipping Campden in search of "The Simple Life" and in doing so they revitalised the town. The origins of Morris are lost in the " Mists of Time", but it was first noted in the 15th century. It is the traditional English ritual folk dance, and the dances have been largely handed down from generation to generation.

Stratford Mummers - 9.45 pm
An evening where two Morris Men rings congregate at the Crown and Trumpet Inn Broadway for some traditional Morris Dancing. Finishing the evening with live traditional Morris Music.

17th of June:
Illmington Morris Men - 8 pm

29th of July
Gloucestershire Morris Men - 8.45 pm
An evening with the Gloucestershire Morris ring at the Crown and Trumpet Inn Broadway with traditional Morris Dancing and live traditional Morris Music.
